JEN BYRNE

Upcycled slow fashion. Future heirlooms, born from the past

Jen Byrne is an award-winning slow fashion designer known for curating heirloom fabrics into modern, wearable garments that highlight the beauty of reclaimed textiles. With a Master’s degree in sustainable fashion, Jen’s design process is deeply rooted in care for our environment, with this guiding every decision along with ensuring impeccable quality and attention to detail.
This collection blends the old with the new: combining recycled and vintage fabrics with textile waste from Savile Row, screenprinted with embroidery imagery and other hand drawings. Featuring modern trans-seasonal designs, the collection includes vintage blankets, curtains and premium remnants such as wool tweed and suiting. Each piece reflects Jen’s commitment to creating exceptional, one-of-a-kind fashion that celebrates both heritage and quality, while redefining luxury through a steadfast dedication to sustainable practices.
Crafted entirely in Jen’s Edinburgh studio, no part of a cherished textile goes to waste. Offcuts are utilised in appliqué, hand stamped labels for stuffing. The entire process – from design and pattern drafting to fitting, grading and sewing – is done in-house. This ensures complete oversight and upholds the brand’s core values of sustainability at every stage, along with the potential to customise bespoke pieces to your exact preferences.
Jen’s limited-edition pieces epitomize the evolving landscape of a practice that is rooted in using only what already exists.
With regular workshops in sewing, upcycling, and pattern drafting held at Jen’s Abbeymount Studio, you can learn or develop your skills in clothing repair, upcycling, pattern drafting, garment creation and more!

XIADANI  CAMPOS

Xiadani Campos is a seamstress and fashion designer from Vancouver, Canada. Using off-cut fabrics and second-hand materials, she designs whimsical womenswear and sleek handbags.

After graduating from the John Casablancas Institute in 2021, Xiadani went on to work for a few Vancouver-based brands such as Arc’teryx and OAK+FORT. Working in these environments of different sizes and goals was when the importance of skill and sustainability was ingrained in her.

In 2024, she moved to Scotland and wasted no time connecting with the local creative community and set up her studio space to finally focus on her own designs. Every piece is designed, developed and made by Xiadani in Abbeymount.

A special project that Xiadani has worked on since embracing Scotland as her home is a collection of handbags made of waterproof upholstery off-cuts. Combining her knowledge of waterproof materials and the need for a stylish bag inspired her sleek handbags that are ready for any weather. While designing this collection, Xiadani thought of the different needs anyone would have. Whether you need an everyday work bag or a reliable evening handbag, you can find these styles in versatile colourways.

This year will be Xiadani’s first time showing her designs with ReFashion Edinburgh. The concept of this small collection is called I Bed To Dinner. A play on the term ‘I beg to differ,’ this theme combines classic pyjama looks and the glamour of a night out on the town. Feminine silhouettes and flowy fabrics will be shown on the elegant ReFashion Edinburgh models. In I Bed to Dinner, we see the connection between getting ready for bed and getting ready for a social gathering by highlighting the romance of women’s pyjamas and the modern depiction of an evening look. All fabrics and trims were sourced from charity shops, fabric scrap bins, and deadstock websites.

This will be the fourth year that the artist has participated in the ReFashion Edinburgh event. His Art Brut Edinburgh collection of designs has given him the freedom to experiment with sustainability, fashion and art, creating a fusion of pieces that over the years have been sold world-wide, and are fast becoming collector items.

His pieces are a shout of freedom from the ordinary, breaking the chains of fast fashion and the homogeneity of the high street. For this year’s ReFashion Edinburgh event, he will be showcasing his Kult of Kommune collection alongside a specially created soundtrack devised by the artist – not to be missed!

ALISON HARM

“I am Alison Harm, founder and producer of ReFashion Edinburgh.
My studio/shop is called Psychomoda, situated in Edinburgh Old Town. I design and make both ready-to-wear and made-to-measure fashion garments, inspired largely by heritage fabrics but not traditional in design.

For ReFashion Edinburgh, I make a collection from remnants,  both from the kilt industry and my own couture practice, trying to use as much fabric as possible, limiting what I send to landfill. I team the remnants with vintage and antique cloths found online and in charity shops. Each piece in this range Is unique as a consequence, and therefore I am experimental with them.

I will be showing a total of three sets at ReFashion 2025, dressing all 20 models. My first set is called  Folklore and features various famous female Scottish spirits from our rich history of the supernatural. Please refer to the blog on my website for details of these characters. The rest of my work is entitled Much Ado about Nothing and is a light-hearted nod to Tudor style mixed with other historical influences, tangled with Scottish allegory.”

CLAIRE PATTISON

“I’m an Edinburgh-based designer with a passion for making bold, textured and playful designs.

Reusing and repurposing is at the heart of everything I create. I work solely with pre-used fabrics and found objects and love the tactile and random nature of this process.

I’ve always been excited by the gathering of disparate items and playing around to see how they can be manipulated into new and interesting shapes. By working in this way, I’ve found I’m as interested in the journey of creating clothes as I am in the finished results.

I enjoy working to themes that are meaningful to me. While my last collection was inspired by women’s art and activism of the 1970s and 80s, this collection is focused more simply on my search for some joy and light in these increasingly dark times. I’ve harnessed my love of big bold shapes and textures into creating oversized quilted clothes and bags, with an emphasis on joyful, tactile florals, prints and bright colours. Pieces to raise a smile!

I’m proud to be part of the ReFashion Edinburgh show, curated by Alison Harm of Psychomoda and excited that Traditional Dance Forum Scotland are once again involved in this event. Their commitment to inclusion and diversity across a wide range of dance traditions is extremely inspiring.”

CARINA ROSE

“Living in the historic wee town of Doune, where the castle stands proudly as both a symbol of Scotland’s past and the filming location of Outlander, I draw inspiration daily from the heritage around me. Doune’s rich history, woven with stories of resilience and reinvention, sparked the idea for my new collection, Sassenach. For me, fashion is storytelling — and this collection is my way of celebrating Scotland’s cultural identity while reimagining it for today’s world.

Sassenach — meaning Outlander in Scots — redefines what it means to stand apart. Inspired by the bold silhouettes of Scottish historical dress, the collection deliberately flips tradition on its head. Instead of uniformity, it embraces scraps, remnants, and discarded materials, shaping them into vibrant drapes, clashing textures, and rebellious forms. Each piece is rooted in history but reshaped into something unexpected, celebrating imperfection while creating beauty from contrast.

At its core, Sassenach is about defiance. It challenges fast fashion’s obsession with replication by producing unapologetically unique garments. Colours collide, fabrics rebel against one another, and every design speaks with its own voice. Nothing matches, yet everything belongs. This is clothing for outsiders, for those who refuse to blend in — a declaration of individuality stitched from fragments of the past.

A patchwork of colour and contrast, Sassenach is a tapestry of fabric that refuses conformity. Loud, mismatched, and proudly anti–fast fashion, it celebrates Scotland’s heritage not through preservation but through transformation. Just like the outlander who carves their own path, the collection embraces difference as strength, weaving history and rebellion into fashion that is both rooted in place and unafraid to stand apart.”

RAINEMAKER STUDIO

RaineMaker Studio is the creative force of Lorraine Pritchard, a visionary mask artist whose work fuses historical elegance with modern sensuality. Specializing in Venetian-style masks, each piece is handcrafted to evoke emotion, mystery, and realism – designed not just to be worn, but to be experienced.

Lorraine’s journey began in the hearts of Florence and Venice, where she trained under master artisans in traditional cartapesta techniques. Immersed in the city’s rich carnival heritage, she honed her craft in the backrooms of mask ateliers, learning to sculpt, paint, and gild with precision and soul. That classical foundation now meets a bold, contemporary aesthetic – her masks often feature distressed textures, gothic flourishes, and lifelike finishes that blur the line between fantasy and reality.

At RaineMaker Studio, sustainability is woven into every creation. Lorraine repurposes vintage materials, salvaged textiles, and natural pigments to ensure each mask is as ethical as it is exquisite. Her work is deeply narrative, often paired with evocative photography and storytelling that brings masked characters to life.

Featured in this year’s ReFashion show, Lorraine’s masks will appear alongside sustainable fashion designers, offering a hauntingly beautiful counterpoint to wearable art. Her pieces invite viewers to step into another world – one where identity is fluid, beauty is layered, and craftsmanship reigns.

Whether gracing a runway, private collection, or on the streets of Venice during its world famous carnival, RaineMaker Studio masks are more than accessories. They are portals to imagination, crafted with care, conscience, and a touch of theatrical magic.

Overview

Find out more about Refashion Edinburgh

Founded in 2022 and produced by Alison Harm of Psychomoda, ReFashion Edinburgh, is a maverick fashion event representing the work of up to 10 designers based in the city. The event aims to support small businesses, nurture sustainable creativity and raise money for charity.

ReFashion Edinburgh is a grassroots response to at least three issues. Firstly, the destructive systems of fast fashion and the dumbing down of creativity due to designers being forced to compete in the fast fashion environment. Secondly, the lack of support for small fashion enterprises and thirdly, the elitism of the fashion industry. ReFashion Edinburgh is not just about the designers. Each year, the designers are supported by an incredible team of creatives, including models, hair stylists, make-up artists, photographers, videographers, backstage staff, and technicians. ReFashion Edinburgh 2024 and 2025 posters design courtesy of Gerry Gapinski. In the words of ReFashion Edinburgh founder Alison Harm:

“We are a team of over 50 people in total. We are an inclusive group in relation to age, gender, and physical ability. We facilitate personal creative growth in all team members through mutual support. All participating creative businesses are allowed to use the event to promote themselves equally. ReFashion Edinburgh is not a charity in its own right and never will be. The removal of money from the project ensures a fair and equal environment of mutual support. Everyone has equal rights within the team. We give our creativity and take support. The door ticket funds are handled by and go in their entirety to the chosen supported charity. The charity, in return, handles all matters of curatorial and admin support. In this way, no money exchanges hands within the ReFashion environment.”
